Growing Up and Moving On

In the Company of Birds

There is one stage in your life that you eventually grow up and start taking responsibilities and commitment more seriously, cant always live a merry good life. This is an example of this event i guess the bird will be making a bold commitment soon like getting married hahaha.. i like the expression on the bird who has met someone special he seems very stoic and wiser i guess it will happen to all of us soon in the future:)

C'oup de Kitty!

Long Live The King

Never even though of the possibility of cats rising up to take the throne hahahaha... this weeks entry is about 2 cats having a conversation about persuading the other cat to seize the throne since the king (whoever that is) has been gone for quite a long time, somehow i always have the idea that cats are evil plotting animals i guess Karl Kerchl illustrated this point. I think this particular style is new since the plot always took place in the wilderness and this time it takes place in a particular city im looking forward to know where this city is and how does it relate with the story as a whole since for me at least im not quite sure where the story is headed or what is it really all about

Poor Thing!

Dinner Conversation

That owl definitely needs a hug, poor thing! there is just that period in life that kids move out from their parents house and fend for their selves you cant stay with your parents forever, this strip is kind of sad and depressing if you ask me the owls expression is clearly sad and gloomy.. i wonder if all parents feel the same when their kids move out? Parents have the tendency to worry too much.. well i guess that's how you feel when you grew up loving something too much saying goodbye is always the hardest i really sympathize with this owl

One Happy Bunny!

First Day of Spring

Spring is here! one of my second favorite season after fall! what i will be anticipating for will be spring break, finally  break from all that midterm exams and freakishly long assignments! i can relate to the bunny in the comic strip because that's how i feel when anticipating at least a week long holiday maybe Karl Kerchl is also illustrating his feelings in this comic strip i cant wait for my holidays! first day of spring yay!!

You're kidding right?

Root Salad

I laughed when i saw this this entry well done Karl Kerchl! i didn't know that big foots eat roots pulled out directly from the ground that's like talking beef jerky to whole new level! i just loved the masked man's expression when the bigfoot offered him the root and his expression clearly says "youre not expecting me to eat that are'nt you??" and the big foot expression is also priceless like he's offering someone a good meal! if i were the big foot i would have said "you want breakfast, well you got breakfast! now start chewing!" im startin to like this big foot like creature more and more.

Hey you! make my breakfast!

Breakfast Call

New entry for this week, frankly i don't know what to comment on for this one. For me it illustrates a servant and master relationship at least that's how i see it. What other explanation is there? the guy walk up to the Bigfoot like creature and asked him to make breakfast with quite an attitude. Clearly this guy thinks he's above the Bigfoot like creature judging from his tone seriously who does he think he is >:o

A Tragic End?

The Mountain Cave

For this weeks entry the author seems to change his style drastically using what seems to me like water color compared to Karl Kerchl's previous work this one seems unique, he stated that this part marks the beginning of chapter 3 making me wonder whether he will continue with this style in his entries. As for me i preferred the previous illustrations. In this strip for me it shows that "something" is dying although it is unclear why as it mentions the possibilities of heat, fever and war as the cause for this creatures condition. In his final moments he said his goodbyes to his family although it is unclear where his families are, i assume that this creature will soon be dead kind of tragic. Im looking forward to finding out what this creature is in the next entries.

The Swan and the Duck

Swans Are STILL Such Jerks

Need i say more on why exactly i "hate" swans? these creatures are just plain nasty and evil! poor ducklings.. swans have anger management issues seriously.. they're definitively on the top of my "animals you shouldn't mess with" list. Im guessing Karl Kerchl have issues as well with these creatures as he seem to enjoy portraying them as obnoxious animals that go "squawk" and chase after you.

The Things That Ticks Me Off..

Insomniac

Yup, you guessed it! its another weekly update from Karl Kerchl's work from www.abominable.cc. From the last post i have mentioned on how the author is able to portray daily human emotions in his work which makes it a unique genre in itself well here is another example of this author's work. This time its about birds and one of my least favorite animals bats! its shows several birds humming contentedly in the morning while the bat is clearly annoyed due to the noise and began to curse the ":four letter word" hahaha... i think the author gets the idea by the basic fact that birds are a lot more livelier in the morning while nocturnal animals tend to be inactive during these times which the author interprets as trying to get a good afternoon nap!
i can totally relate to this! the one thing i hate more than anything is being disturbed while i'm trying to get a well earned sleep especially after staying up late! without a proper nap people tend to have a bad attitude (which includes me) so in this particular comic strip, i feel the bats pain:(
but if it "were" me i would have walked straight up to the person disturbing me and give them a piece of my mind! Whatever you do "You do Not Mess With Sleepy People!" or you could get hurt or face quite a temper;)

The Evil Glare

 Date Night

hey guys! this would be my second weekly update on Karl Kerschl's work, there is still a semester worth up "mandatory updates" so you will be seeing a lot from this particular author in this blog until the end of the semester. Lets see now.. you were wondering why i put the "evil glare" for this title right? the third picture will pretty much tell you why!:D
This is what i would call the "are you trying to piss me off stare" the expression say's it all, it is the kind of expression my mom would give me for any so-called "misdemeanors" and a clear indication that im testing her patience to the limit and trust me its best to obey in these kind of situation to avoid getting lectured for more than an hour.. ok back to the main point, overall Its amazing how the author is able to portray human like emotions on animal's within his work which i find kind of neat! You must have seen these expressions in your everyday life, but it takes a lot of creativity to apply them to animal's as though they're human like by nature and personally i find this concept quite intriguing.. we always have this notion that animals are quite different from humans but by applying this interesting concept it's as though the author is implying that animals are like us! such as talking with their wife's, having to put their kids to beds and even having arguments with one another. It makes me wonder on where the author gets his inspiration for these pieces but i am certain of two thing; the author seems to have an affinity for animals and observing people's expression's (which takes sensitivity) i will be looking forward to what entries the author comes up next:)

Web Comics for assignment topic?

This is probably the first time ever that i was assigned to read a web comic by "any" of my professor's. Im  guessing its probably due to his obsession with webcomics. I get the feeling that he hopes to share his enthusiasm with the rest of the class! Dont get me wrong, i love comics! but i would have to admit that im more familiar with Japanese genre compared to the western style comics. So here i am supposedly writting my impression on this particular comic strip which has little dialogue and no clear plot unless you read them as a whole. I got this particullar comic strip from http://www.abominable.cc/ its done by the author Carl Kerschl, its a series of webcomics updated weekly talking about the life of a yeti like creature and his interactions with other animals in the jungle hence the title "The Abominable Charles Christopher". Im going to talk about this web comic a bit so i hope you bare with me:)
Overall i liked the illustrations its almost lifelike (the animals obviously!) its beautifully drawn and detailed, the author must had real animals as refference in order to draw something as detailed as this. The 4 sections portrays the interaction between what looks like an otter and a really nasty swan (I never really liked swans), and to sum it up this is why: swans are obnoxious! they squawk, peck and whats worst: they chase after you! i had an embarassing encounter with this "devil like avian" once and trust me its enough to make me hate them, even though im generally an animal lover! I give a thumbs up to Carl Kerschl in portraying this obnoxious bird perfectly (in my oppinion) I guess thats all i can comment on this particullar strip so little yeah? i know.. thats the only think i can think off its only four strips afterall, ill try to do better next time unless i want to get less than a C for this project.. Theres more comic strips to come until the end of the semester so ill be posting more updates from this site weekly. Anyways thanks for reading!!
